Clutter: Do you have it? Truth: We ALL do!
Updated: Dec 17, 2018
Clutter has a way of sneaking up on us. Trust me when I say this...WE ALL HAVE CLUTTER! Clutter comes in different forms for different people and have varying extremes. Clutter can be as simple as a week's worth of mail in a basket. A desk filled with papers we say we will file tomorrow, a month later piles spill onto the floor. Been there. A closet filled with who knows what? Anytime you don’t have a specific place for something, it will likely end up here. Maybe even possible extreme, creative walking paths within your home to get around. I am guilty of this one, bringing home items that you just know you will find a use or space for and a year later the item has not moved? I could keep going and going but guess what ALL OF THESE and others are way more common than you think! I will confess, personally I relate with Monica from Friends. I like everything organized and for everything to have a place. However, every once in a while, I find my closet or pantry to be like her secret closet. When I end up realizing how disorganized my space is, I end up organizing my entire pantry or closet. As I said, clutter happens to EVERYONE.
As we think about the basic principle of Feng Shui - Everything is Energy - Clutter holds energy. The more clutter you have, the more energy it creates. Clutter by definition is to fill or cover with scattered or disordered things that impede movement or reduce effectiveness a room. How do we effectively deal with clutter? I have a few suggestions to get started. Start small, energy will begin to shift, may even seem to spiral and be uncomfortable. Remember, being uncomfortable is a sign of change and change is what we are looking for! Start with one area or room. Stay focused on smaller or specific areas. Seeing progress is important! Ease into this new routine by removing 9 items a day or setting a timer for 9 or 27 minutes. Remember to celebrate the small wins. If you are still unsure how to get started, I assure you, you are not alone. Contact me and I can help!
